Week Eleven: Waning Summer

If you’re like us, you are starting to notice the sun setting just a bit earlier.

School kids are becoming a little restless – simultaneously eager for the routine that includes their friends but also lamenting the coming homework-filled afternoons.

Farm life is like that too; within the ebb and flow of fickle crops and shifting forecasts are the welcomed constants of crop production and lazy buzzing pollinators, errant weeds and the satisfaction of watching something as simple as a tomato ripen.

We love sharing all of this with you in our weekly CSA. This week’s box includes sweet Vidalia onions from our farmer friends in Georgia as well as ripe tomatoes from Farmer Hamm. From Clayton Farms, we have fresh lady peas as well as red plums. We love any and all stone fruits and there is no end to delicious ways to enjoy them. Check out one of these recipes and let us know what you make!

From our own Harpersville, AL farm, we have the sweetest cantaloupe and figs as well as more okra, peppers and eggplant. For those aubergines, we are looking to try one of these recipes – for involtini or caponata or with field peas and peppers.

As always, sharing our passion with you, our CSA members, brings us joy. We can’t wait to see you at pick-up – which is one routine we never tire of.

Happy Tuesday!
