Notes from the Farm
In today’s share, you will find whole milk chocolate milk made with 100% raw cacao. This milk (which also comes as a CSA add-on) is farm milk and is non-homogenized and, therefore has cream on top. The cream in the farm milk rises to the top and may become thick or solidify. Before drinking, set the milk out on the counter for a couple of minutes to allow the cream to soften, shake it up, then enjoy!
You will also find baby fennel from Belle Meadow Farm. Baby fennel is different from regular fennel, in that it has a more delicate taste than when it is mature. It can be used in the same way as regular fennel but because of its small and delicate size shines roasted in the oven or lightly dressed raw in a salad.
Amish popcorn can be found in this week’s share as well. It's from a farm in Amish country in northern Indiana. We love it not only because it's a non-GMO corn product, but also because they grow so many varieties! We will be carrying all 12 varieties at The Pantry, FarmStand, and on the site to please every popcorn-loving tastebud that could exist. Their kernels range in color, size, and flavor, with most varieties lacking hulls that get stuck in teeth and (to the chagrin of our past dermatologists) braces. We would appreciate feedback on your experience of the Amish popcorn and enjoy the multiple varieties available soon at The Pantry!
