Every Seed Holds a Surprise

One of our favorite moments each summer is watching a seedling bloom for the very first time.

Until that flower opens, no one, not even us, knows exactly what it will become.

Unlike tubers, which faithfully reproduce the same variety year after year, every dahlia seed creates an entirely new plant. It may inherit the rich color of one parent, the elegant form of another, or reveal something completely unexpected.

These are the same kinds of seeds plant breeders use to discover tomorrow’s remarkable dahlias.

Whether you’re hoping to find your next favorite flower or simply enjoy the wonder of growing something truly unique, each packet offers ten opportunities to witness a bloom the world has never seen before.

How It Works

This is a pre-purchase item, as there is a limited number available.

Seeds are hand-harvested from open-pollinated Stone Hollow Farmstead dahlias. Because dahlias do not grow true to parent from seed, every plant you raise will be a brand new, one of a kind variety that shares the genetics of its parent line. The surprise is half the fun.

Start seeds indoors four to six weeks before your last frost, then transplant after the danger of frost has passed in your growing zone. Seeds ship in spring, in time for starting; you will receive a notification when we are preparing to ship.
