Keep Your Cool
This heat! That which makes us sticky and uncomfortable is what makes so much of our farm thrive. Farmer Hamm might say the same – his slicing cucumbers grow well in these hot temps but are equally at home quick-pickled and chilled in this recipe. They’ll pair well with the Chinese pink celery from our own farm; layer in thin slices of our green onions too, for punch.
Our haricot verts are close to ceasing production so make the most of them while they last. We love this recipe where they are blanched to just al dente and then tossed with a punchy vinaigrette and wedges of our heirloom tomatoes. These make the perfect side dish to anything coming off the grill, like this recipe. If you’re feeling more in the mood for steak, we can’t stop thinking about sauteeing up the oyster mushrooms from Grand View with sliced shallots and garlic, spooning on top of a thick ribeye. Finish with our applewood sea salt and a chef’s kiss.
When it is time for dessert, nothing sings summer more than our snow leopard melons – we’re kinda giddy about this first showing. Serve sliced into thick wedges, showered with fresh lime juice and a spoon. If you’re feeling magnanimous, serve the melon as an appetizer, wrapping bite-sized pieces in luscious salty slices of prosciutto from our friends at Son of a Butcher.
If time allows, make these luscious blueberry hand pies which will be just as good for breakfast as they are dessert. Of course, if cocktails are more your speed, spend a little time with some of these recipes which will add a little color to your next fete, large or small.
