What To Savor Now, What To Savor Later

A basket of green beans

This week’s CSA basket offers plenty of farm-raised goodness to enjoy now, while also giving us a taste of delights arriving in the months to come.  There are snappy green beans & heirloom tomatoes from Farmer Hab in Mentone and sweet onions from nearby Sand Mountain. The haul of lady peas from our friends at Clayton Farms will freeze beautifully if you aren’t cooking them this week — just be sure to remove all the air from the freezer-safe packaging. Air is the enemy of freshness in your freezer!

Something new this week are the non-GMO popcorn kernels our Amish friends have shared with us. Offering non-GMO corn (i.e. corn that has not been treated with Round-Up or other pesticides) is of paramount importance to us and we only have access to these for a short window each year. For the uninitiated (er, those of us who might have only cooked popcorn in a bag in the microwave!), here are directions on how best to enjoy.

Rounding out the basket are okra from our Harpersville farm as well as eggs, feta and Chive Blossom Vinegar.

If you have never tasted items from our cannery — sauces, vinegars, syrups, pickled vegetables and more — you are in for a treat. These are just a few of the items we package for corporate gifting. That season will be here before we know it so we encourage you to think ahead on what your needs might be. Deborah and Alexandra have years of successfully curating sophisticated customized gifts, in a wide range of price points. We would love to work with you one-on-one to explore your options for branded boxes and custom-printed materials, custom gift wrapping and embellishments, and alternate merchandise selections.

In the mean time, we cannot wait to see you at pick-up this afternoon and share what we love to do best - connecting you with the best farm fresh produce and artisanal products available.
