You Complete Me
Some weeks, our CSA baskets lean a little heavy in one form of produce over another — maybe more peas than fruit, or more specialty items than staples — we crave that variety. In contrast, this week’s basket is one of those that you can easily make whole meals out of, from start to finish.
Let baker Corey Hinkel’s fresh pizza dough dictate tonight’s supper. Maybe coat a pizza peel with cornmeal and let the dough rise and rest while the oven preheats and you prep your toppings. Maybe you’ll add strips of fresh poblano peppers from Hamm Farms or shaved okra and garlic from our own farm. If you have any fresh feta left from last week’s basket, crumble some and sprinkle it over the pizza after it comes out of the oven.
That same feta will also pair beautifully with chunks of watermelon from Farmer Hab in Mentone. The poblano peppers would make a nice addition as well. Toss together with some good olive oil and let marinate in the fridge until you are ready to serve. This simple salad is a perfect starter or you can opt to spoon it over the salad greens from our friends at Love Light Farm.
Sweet potatoes from the Mississippi Delta are in this week’s basket too, as are lima beans from Clayton Farms. Garlic and fresh turmeric from our own Harpersville farm will be perfect in this dinner recipe from Food and Wine. Or try the turmeric in this panna cotta dessert from our friends at Food 52.
We want to see what you’re making this week and every week — share your CSA photos with our private Facebook group and inspire us with your creations!
Have a great week!
