What is SHF CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, CSA, is a valuable program that helps to directly connect organic and healthy produce from our farm and local farms, to your kitchen. Stone Hollow Farmstead began its CSA program in Spring of 2014 to share our love for eating fresh with our valued friends and clients.
How does our CSA work?
The program is divided into four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter/Holiday. It begins in March and ends in December. Shares can be purchased by season or collectively as an annual share. Every Tuesday, produce and food items are selected from Stone Hollow Farmstead and local and regional farms, then gathered and prepared for pickup at The Pantry or one of our other local partner locations.
Why choose SHF CSA?
Purchasing a CSA Share from Stone Hollow Farmstead means supporting local and regional farms. The farming community thrives by coexisting. Our partnerships with other farms allow us to provide the community with fresh, seasonal foods. No two weeks are the same. We take pride in keeping the shares diverse and exciting, all while supporting local farms. Read our entire vision here.
What does an average share include?
An average share will include a variety of produce, along with herbs, fresh bread, and occasionally dairy products and SHF cannery products. Add-on shares of cow’s milk, cheese and/or yogurt, hen eggs and fresh cut flowers are available. Add-on’s are available to purchase after selecting a seasonal or annual share to purchase.
Check out our weekly CSA blog, Tuesday Table for examples and images of what you can find in your share. Each blog contains recipes and information, making it easy to incorporate share items into your weekly routine.
Quarter or Half share?
A quarter share feeds a family of three or less, while a half share feeds a family of three or more. Shares are meant to supplement your groceries - think of the share as an accompaniment to your food base. It means spending less money at the grocery store and supplying your kitchen with seasonal provisions.
When are the CSA pickup days, times, and locations?
Pick up day is Tuesday. We have five pickup locations from Birmingham to Harpersville. All times and locations can be found here.
What if I miss picking up my share one week?
We encourage 24-hour notifications if you are unable to pick up a share.
